Wendy’s Knock Off Chili Recipe – Just Like Chilli From Wendy’s

I’ve got a confession to make…I’ve never actually tasted Wendy’s Chili! Shocking, I know, but it’s just not something that I’ve ever bothered to try before. But, recently, I got myself a digital recipe book full of loads of secret recipes from heaps of different American restaurants, and the Wendy’s Chili Recipe sounded so good and was so popular with the other users of the cookbook, that I thought I’d better give it a try. And I’m glad I did!

I’m going to have to take the other users’ word for it that it tastes just like Wendy’s Chili, as I’ve got no previous experience to compare it to, but, whether it tastes like Wendy’s or not (and they all assure me it does), it’s delicious! And it’s so easy to make! This will now become a regular family meal in our house.

Now, technically, this is a secret recipe so I’m not sure if I’m allowed to share it with all of you here. As luck would have it though, the original recipe was designed to serve 10. Not knowing if my family would enjoy it or not, I didn’t want to cook such a large quantity, so I halved the recipe.

Therefore, to my way of thinking, this is a different recipe as the quantities are all different to the original recipe, so I feel like it should be OK for me to share it with you here.

So, here’s how I make Wendy’s Chili Recipe:

Begin with 500g or 1 pound of ground beef and add this to a dutch oven on the stove.

Cook over medium-high heat while stirring to break up and crumble the meat until browned.

Add tomato sauce/paste (What’s known as tomato sauce in the USA is more commonly known as tomato paste in other parts of the world) and stir it through the meat.

And finally add your herbs, spices and chili powder (read all about the best chili powders here).

Once it’s all stirred through and cooking, turn the heat down to low and let it simmer away for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally.

If you don’t have a dutch oven, you could very easily make this chili in a slow cooker. Simply brown the meat in a frying pan, drain off any excess fat and then transfer the meat to your slow cooker or crockpot. Add the rest of the ingredients and then slow cook for 4-6 hours.

We enjoyed ours with a dollop of sour cream to take some of the heat out of the chili – delicious!
